The visa must be renewed annually. In order to maintain their status, the spouse must report to Immigration every 90 days. In addition, the couple must pay an embassy fee and charges for legal services.
Interview
If you’re the American spouse of a Thai citizen and want to get your CR1 or IR1 marriage visa then you need to prepare for the interview. This is one of the most important parts of the whole process and should not be taken lightly.
The interview is conducted by a Consular Officer at the US Embassy in Bangkok and is usually scheduled within a couple weeks of receiving all the required documents. During the interview you will be asked questions about your relationship and why you are getting married. You will also need to provide proof of financial support if you are sponsoring your Thai spouse.
The embassy staff will notify you via email once your Packet 3 is complete and your interview date has been set. If you are unable to attend your interview you can request to have it rescheduled. Be aware that it is not guaranteed that a new date will be available.
